Tauranga Crossing, located in Tauriko, is the newest regional shopping centre dedicated to the local community and visitors alike.

With a long-standing relationship with the client, TSA was engaged to complete stage 2A and 2B and provided full project management services. We worked closely with and monitored the main contractor to ensure that construction works were executed to meet the strict project deadlines.

Stage One of Tauranga Crossing opened in September 2016, providing a vibrant retail mix. Stage Two reinforces the centre’s role in the region and includes a 2-storey, 47,000m2 enclosed mall, housing 90 speciality shops, bespoke food and beverage offerings, as well as health, entertainment and leisure activities.

The location has high visibility to passing traffic, and direct access to State Highways 29 and 36, as well as Route K direct to the city centre.

The project was delivered according to strict deadlines to coincide with the Easter trading period. The site included geotechnical challenges and required an alternative consenting strategy to ensure the design was not holding up works on site. Complicated design elements required flexibility to suit the retail environment and local trades were procured in a heated market.

Tauranga Crossing is considered the pre-eminent retail centre in Tauranga and now employs approximately 1,000 locals across its retail, entertainment, food and beverage outlets. The project was the winner of the Commercial Category of NZ Institute of Architects, Waikato / Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards.
