Wynyard Walk
Client: Transport for NSW
Project value: AU$305 million

The TSA team worked as part of the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) integrated project team to fill a number of the key project roles, including Senior Project Managers, Utilities Manager, Enabling Works Project Manager, Development (Property) Manager, Surveillance Officers and cost management.

The main elements of the Wynyard Walk project, including the 110m underground pedestrian tunnel component, is being delivered through a $154 million D&C contract with Thiess Contractors. The contract was awarded in Sept 2012. TSA’s staff were heavily involved through the procurement process and are now directly responsible for administering this D&C contract.

The TSA team were seconded into TfNSW’s integrated project team from mid 2011, through to the opening of the walk in 2018. Of the integrated project team of approximately 20, 8 were TSA team, based either on-site or in the project head office.

The project required a complicated jigsaw of underground tunnelling techniques. Careful planning was required with staging to ensure continued use of Wynyard Station and minimal impact on adjacent property owners, traffic and pedestrian access.

The construction methodology combined the use of underpinning techniques, construction of an access shaft in Clarence Street, cut and cover sections, road header excavation and canopy tube techniques.

The fully accessible pedestrian link between Wynyard Station and Barangaroo allows pedestrians to get from the transport hub to the waterfront in approximately six minutes, avoiding steep inclines and road crossings.
