Rail Management Centre
Client: Queensland Rail
Project value: AU$25 million

TSA was appointed by Queensland Rail as the Superintendent for the main design and construct contract. This primarily involved assisting QR to complete the design, construction, commissioning and handover of the Rail Management Centre (RMC).

The new RMC constructed on land adjacent the existing operational rail corridor. The RMC has been designed to cater for changes and expansion in Queensland to enable Queensland Rail to provide effective rail management services over the next 30 years.

The new RMC comprises a five storey building and new multi-storey car park. The new building connects to the existing operational facility adjacent. Due to the complex nature of the interfaces and criticality of maintaining existing Control Centre operations, close attention was paid to stakeholder management and construction staging of the works.

The project was successfully completed, four months ahead of contract program and significantly under budget in September 2015. The Rail Management Centre became fully operational and was officially opened in November 2015.

The project has won significant awards including:

  • Professional Excellence in Building – 2016 Australian Institute of Building QLD Awards;
  • Project of the Year – 2016 Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) QLD Awards; and
  • Project of the Year – 2016 Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) National Awards.
