Marian College
Catholic Diocese of Christchurch

Marian College is an all-girls, Catholic secondary school in Christchurch.  After being forced to leave their original site on North Parade in Shirley after the 2021 earthquakes, students were hosted at St Bede’s College for the rest of the year, and then moved to a temporary school at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in 2012.

After a decade of searching for new premises, the college found an innovative solution in an unexpected location – a  former Foodstuffs distribution centre. TSA were engaged to support the school to supply the full end-to-end project management for the new development. Our responsibilities encompassed coordination of the design process, conducting value engineering exercises, procuring consultants, overseeing consent-related activities, managing enabling works, procuring the main contractor for construction, facilitating construction contract negotiations, managing the construction phase. TSA were also responsible for ensuring effective communication between neighbours, the college, and the school community.

The project was completed in 2023 and includes 27 full-sized classrooms, a reception and administration area, staff offices, a staff room, Whare, a learning centre with a library, chapel, performing arts wing, and a canteen. Additionally, it features a full-sized indoor basketball court, two netball courts, a soccer pitch, a black box performance area, and a gym.
