Sydney Desalination Plant
Sydney Water Corporation

10ha site, 132kV substation, 30-month construction program.

The Sydney Desalination Project involved the ocean inlets and outlets and the world’s largest RO hall providing the network with an additional 250ml/day.

TSA was part of Sydney WaterCorporation’s site based Integrated Project Team (IPT) and was appointed as the Contract Manager responsible for leading a site based integrated project team that included Sydney Water staff and technical consultants. As the Contract Manager, TSA was responsible for the administration of both the Design and Construct and Operations and Maintenance contracts. TSA also provided construction, commercial, OHS, environmental and compliance management services for the project.

The desalination plant was delivered over a 30-month construction program and was completed (first water) February 2010. At the peak of construction, progress was delivered at a rate in excess of $50m per month. The project was completed on time and under budget.

The desalination plant involved:

  • Development of a 10ha site at Kurnell and the construction of port berthing facilities;
  • Establishment of an ocean drill platform, TBM tunnelling, chemical storage and handling systems;
  • High voltage power systems including a 132kV substation and N+1 redundancy to supply systems;
  • A fully integrated BIM model.
