Practical completion of Hotel 4 at Auckland Airport was achieved in November 2020.
TSA was engaged for full Project Management and Engineer to the Contract services for the construction of the hotel conversion from an existing two-storey office building into a four-storey 3.5-star hotel at the Airport. We were involved in all project works, from feasibility through to design, procurement, and construction.
The construction of the hotel involved deconstructing the old office building back to the original steel and concrete structure, extending its footprint and adding extra storeys. Then completing the façade to wrap it all together. The development included a full back of house set-up with the front of house including a restaurant, café, and bar.
Hotel 4 was originally intended to meet the pre-COVID-19 demand for accommodation at Auckland Airport, designed to sit within their suite of hotels and provide a mid-point accommodation option. However, since the reduction of international travel due to COVID-19 restrictions, the decision was made to complete the structure and façade of the hotel with the completion of the fitout delayed until travel restrictions are lifted.
With construction continuing through the COVID-19 period there was certainly additional challenges on this project, but we look forward to travel restrictions easing and the completion of the internal fitout for Hotel 4!
