Building 17 Revitalisation
Client: Monash University
Project value: AU$42 million

TSA fulfilled the role of external project manager and superintendent for the complete replacement of the deteriorated 1960s existing façade with a new high-performance façade, along with extensive internal refurbishments and service infrastructure upgrades. Re-positioning the building for predominantly high-end laboratory accommodation.

These refurbishment works required detailed planning with works completed in a live operational environment. All internal spaces had to remain weather-tight and infrastructure services maintained.

We provided full project management including programming and staging, stakeholder management, design management, risk management, cost management, procurement strategy, contractor procurement and superintendency.

Monash University had an ambitious passive design policy where minimum compliance and conventional design was not enough. An innovative approach was taken on the façade, using the latest construction materials to deliver excellent ESD performance outcomes. This initiative resulted in the project shortlisted for the 2018 Victorian Architecture Awards Sustainable Architecture Category.

The innovative design response resulted in a complete revitalisation of a tired and dated building to a statement of art. The bespoke detailing and modern design allow for teaching and research with PC2 laboratory and high-end office accommodation.
